Vic High Reads
First step: Attend the Vic High Reads assembly and vote for your choice of book: Feb. 11, 2020.
Second step: Our class has close to a tie between The Librarian of Auschwitz (15 votes) or The Missing (14 votes). We need to decide which one to do. Go to the Vic High Reads link on the library website, and read the first chapter of each of the books: https://www.vichighreads2020.com/the-books.html
Third step: We are utilising new curriculum for Vic High Reads which focuses on student "voice and choice" as well as the four strands of Language Arts: New Media, Literary Analysis, Spoken Language, and Composition.
You have two decisions to make immediately:
1. Do you want to read the book? We have 6 copies available. If you read the book, you will be one of our literary advisors. We need at least 4 and can have as many as we like.
2. Decide what strand you would like to participate in:
Literary: These folks will need to have a good, working knowledge of the book. If this is you, you likely enjoy finding symbolism in the work you read, you may enjoy connecting fiction to real life events, or learning about the author and what brought them to the work. You will be responsible for finding the evidence, both literary and real world, that we use in our presentation. A sub-category to the Literary strand is the Visual Arts. If you are an artist and feel you would like to contribute in a visually creative manner, this is your group.
Spoken Language: If this is you, you enjoy voice overs, drama, reading aloud, Ted Talks, podcasts, etc. You have strong reading and verbal skills. You are perhaps a bit of a performer. You are good at taking material and bringing it to life.
Composition: If this is you, you like to write! You may be interested in creative writing or journalism. Keep in mind, you will be working with others. You will likely be writing our script.
New Media: If this is you, you will be our tech team. You like editing. You like recording. You know your products and can get around in many different forms. We do not yet know what our product will be, so we will be turning to you for some ideas here.
